What is a USB type-C socket?

USB type-C is referred to as usb-c for short. Its birth is not long ago. As early as December 13, the USB 3.0 promotion team has announced the rendering of the next generation USB type-C connector, which has just been finalized in the USB 3.1 standard released in August 2014. Type-C socket is a new specification of USB cable and connector, which defines a complete set of new USB physical specifications including connector, port, container and cable.

Type-C socket is a new USB interface as light and compact as lightning interface in iPhone. It can be expanded into three interfaces: power supply / USB transmission / VGA or HDMI. Through the adapter, it can also be compatible with previous generation interfaces such as USB 3.0 and USB 2.0.

USB type-C socket has a new interface size and slightly cool name. It is very easy for consumers who hear the term for the first time to think that it is a new USB standard, but it is not. Usb-type-c socket is only a part of USB 3.1 standard, not a new standard. In addition, it should be noted that, similar to the common USB 2.0, the USB 3.1 standard still has yepe-a (common computer host) and micro-b (common in Android mobile phones) and other interfaces. Type-C is not the only choice for consumers to enjoy USB 3.1 high-speed data transmission.
